Port Elizabeth; South Africa

So it seems that my home town became jelous when it noticed all the Cape Town pictures on my blog so in an attempt to appease it I ave posted some pictures of the tranquill port.

De Waal Park; Cape Town

I spent a good deal of Easter Weekend in De Waal Park with Bubbles and Scooter getting more exercise than I planned to get in a lifetime! I thought those muscles at the front of your calves were for display purposes only but apparently they come in handy should you wish to walk over eager Golden Retrievers up and down steep hills!! Be warned though you cannot thereafter use them for normal walking or even standing up straight.

Xhosa Skirt

I hate cream as much as any colour trying to not be colourful. So when a past flat mate gave me heaps of half made up curtains I had to make some creative use of the fabric. There is no greater crime than waste in my book. After making some curtains for another friend I decided that the only item of clothing I was good at making was a skirt. Skirt it was! It reminded me of the skirts that the local Xhosa woman used to wear ( I had seen it in pictures, okay) so I decided to use buttons and bright orange glass beads to embroider it with. One of the easier projects I have done and therefore enjoyable!

Creative Wear

So there I was, given table cloth fabric but not possessing a table, I decided to play around. I made a skirt because that is straight forward kind of thing to make. In hindsight a cushion would be even easier but you can’t wear that out, plus you need a couch to put it on. I used ink to dye it and for want of fabric paint I used some acrylic paint for the details. The rest is sequins. I have posted a close up of the fabric.

I get attached to certain items of clothing. Once I have taken an old pair of jeans or T-shirt and experimented on it with thread, beads, sequins and fabric paint I really can't be parted from it even it was way past it's best by date. These are a few items I made and I felt that they should be recorded before I can no longer squeeze into them. I had so much fun doing this little photo shoot that I decided to share it!! Hope it inspires you too!!
