KISS Photo editing tutorials

Lesson 3 - Try this With Your Own Pictures

Keep it simple to begin with. Rome was not built in a day. Find a simple picture you like and try to copy it, i.e. do something similar to what they did. If you like it it should hold your interest.  It does not need to be exactly the same...if they chose blue and you want it red then make changes.....for that is the beginning of creativity.

My example:
I liked the shape of this leaf. I was thinking of my boyfriend and it looked heart shaped to me. It needed a cheery background and my scarf was just the right colour so I placed the leaf on it and took a photo.

Now rotate it....

.....and add a short text.

Lesson 2 - Crop and Rotation

No matter how wonderful a picture is if I have to crick my neck to view it I'm not interested.  Some people think it is acceptable to post these pictures to Facebook. ....I'm here to tell you that it is not.

Unacceptable

KISS Photo editing tutorials

This is especially for Jenny but others may benefit so feel to share. I will update it as and when I can.
Download a free photo editing program on your PC. A well known one like GIMP will be great. If you have a smart phone there are plenty of free Android apps & iPhone apps.

On Android market I am currently using:
One Man With a Camera
Pic Paint
Skitch....tied to Evernote (which I love)
Paper Artist
I will speak more about them later.

Lesson 1:
Take a photo of a loved one (or an unloved one)
Go to the filter settings of your program.  See what each one does and save an example of each. You can rename the picture John 1, John 2 or John B & W,  John sepia, John polarised.
The object is to become familiar with the options available on your particular program.
Feedback welcome.

Beautiful places

When was the last time you were in a place so lovely that it completely changed your mood? For me Cape Town had a lot of beautiful places in nature one could sit and ponder in. I need someone to share with me some of JHB's hidden beautiful places....the only one I know about is 50kms from me and working a full day there are very few changes to get there.  I took this photo yesterday.  Refreshed my soul.

Letters

I am so excited to do this post that I can't wait until I am fully prepared for it. I am starting now and will update it as I get things scanned in. Louise and I loved writing and receiving letters and this small selection is of our lovingly embellish envelopes sent to each other. We had more time then.

We were inspired by Griffin and Sabine postcards.

Dreams

A hundred years ago when I was in high school, amongst the many things that I wanted to be was a stylist. I still don't have much of a clue about styling and cringe when people say: "You're creative, come and help with these flowers or table layouts." This is my friend Louise being made to model for me and my seriously non digital camera. Oh, if we had had digital cameras back then I would have taken 30 000 photos a year, I'm sure. I can't think that she liked this otherwise there may have been more.

Large fish

This was an impromptu holiday project. Totally unexpected and a very small window of time in which to do it. It was a very pleasant project to work on. I was told to "make it colourful and then it can stay!"
